Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
St. Maarten – On May 19, an armed man dressed in black and wearing a hoody robbed the home of Minister of Justice Dennis Richardson just after midday. Police investigators have no new evidence in the case. Press Public Prosecutor Karola van Nie confirmed on Wednesday, that the investigation is still ongoing
At the time of the robbery, Minister Richardson stated to this newspaper that the robber threatened his wife Emilse and their two children with a weapon. Terrified she led the robber to the location of her jewelry. The robber took all and escaped. The incident shows that even the minister of justice is not safe from break-ins, Richardson noted at the time.
This is the second time that burglars target the home of a high-ranking official. In 2014, UP-leader Theo Heyliger’s home was burglarized while nobody was home.
The police heard several witnesses and questioned suspects but due to lack of evidence the police had to release suspects it had a close eye on.
The burglar entered the home via a window, searched the place and took “several valuable items,†police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson stated in a previous press release.
